HER EXCELLENCY AMBASADOR XOLELWA MLUMBI PETER
SOUTH AFRICA’S AMBASSADOR TO THE WORLD TRADE ORGANISATION (WTO)
Ambassador Xolelwa Mlumbi-Peter has served as South Africa’s Chief Negotiator and Deputy Director-General (DDG) in the International Trade and Economic Division (ITED) at Department of Trade and Industry (the dti) since October 2014.
This entailed the development and implementation of trade, intellectual property rights and investment policy. She has led South Africa’s trade negotiations with various partners, including the European Union, UK and Mercosur. At the regional and African continental level, this included leading trade negotiations, bilateral and regional trade engagements in the Southern Africa Customs Union, Southern Africa Development Community (SADC), the Tripartite Free Trade Area negotiations between East African Community, Common Market for East and Southern Africa and SADC and the African Continental Free Trade Agreement. She has also led negotiations on behalf of South Africa in a number of multilateral platforms such as the G20, BRICS and the Commonwealth. Ms. Mlumbi-Peter joined the dti as Director: NEPAD/AU in September 2005 and was appointed as the Chief Director for Africa Multilateral Economic Relations in May 2008 to drive regional economic integration in Africa. She is an accredited Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution Mediator.

Anne Githuku-Shongwe is the Representative for UN Women's South Africa Multi-Country Office (SAMCO), which is responsible for women's empowerment and gender equality in Botswana, Lesotho, Swaziland and Namibia as well as South Africa, where the office is based. Anne also brings to her role 20 years of experience as a senior international development professional including with the United Nations Development Programme across Africa and managing US Scholarships for African Graduate Scholars.
Anne has been an award-winning social entrepreneur and founder of Afroes, a Digital & Gamification Learning enterprise and a thought leader on the Future of Learning. Anne and Afroes received multiple awards including the prestigious Schwab Foundation/World Economic Forum Social Entrepreneur of the Year 2013 Award and a National Award – the Order of the Grand Warrior from the President of Kenya. Other awards include the PeaceAPP award of the UN, MEFFYs Award, London UK and Netexplo Award, Paris to name a few.
Anne is a Board Member and Grand Juror of the World Summit Awards for the UN Information Society, a Board Member of CHESTRAD International and I WILL GIVE – a new innovative domestic financing vehicle for African development. She has a Masters’ degree in International Development from The American University; a certificate in Social Innovation from the University of Cape Town, Graduate School of Business, a certificate in The Art of Large Scale Systems Change for Social Entrepreneurship from Harvard University and a Management Certificate from Jones International University.

Ms Sindiswa Mzamo holds qualifications from GIBS University and University of Johannesburg. She is a global women economic activist and a pioneer for women advancement globally.

AWARD WINNING INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS WOMAN

A South African Chamber of Commerce’s Business Woman of the Year Award winner, Zimbabwe-born Penny Streeter OBE is one of the most successful women entrepreneurs in South Africa and the UK. At one time living in a homeless refuge with three children, Penny has since built a business empire from start-up out of sheer hard work and tenacity.
Her medical recruitment agency A24 Group, which she founded in 1996, achieved rapid growth through an outstanding business model that she created. The firm provides more than 100,000 hours' work each week for healthcare professionals in the UK and South Africa.
Since 2016 Penny has also built a major wine, hospitality and leisure business across both countries, Benguela Collection. It started with the acquisition and substantial investment in the Benguela Cove vineyard in South Africa's Walker Bay wine region, with a 450-ton winery and 173 acres of vines.

Athi Rwexu holds a Master’s degree in Actuarial Science from Heriot Watt University in the United Kingdom (December 2019) and also holds a BSc in mathematical statistics from the University of the Cape Town. Professionally Athi has worked as an actuarial analyst at MMI holdings and Alexander Forbes. Her other roles include internships at Citi Bank Group and being employed as an FNB brand ambassador while still at UCT.
While at Alexander Forbes she was nominated to join the Alexander Forbes junior board of directors. Further to that she has also been amongst young professionals invited by the president to debate progress on the national development plan policy at the union building with the office of the presidency, which included the president, the deputy president, various ministers and some of South Africa’s CEOs.
Athi created Beta Sigmax maths software. The Maths software aims to help learners understand maths and learn it in a fun way through the use of graphics. She decided to launch the app as she felt that there needs to be more people in who are interested in STEM careers (science, technology, engineering and maths). Athi has been invited as a delegate to the World Bank Group Youth summit at their headquarters in Washington, DC. Athi’s start-up is being incubated by the Edinburgh Business School Incubator which is assisting the product to scale across the UK.

Joy Wanjiru Machugu-Zenz is the founder of African Women in Europe (AWE), the CEO of African Women in Trade (AWT) and Africa Market in Europe (AME), Chairlady of AWE Diaspora SACCO and CEO of AWE Academy. She has received several awards, Winner of 2018 African Business Support Award (The Voice Awards Amsterdam), and Won African Diaspora living Legend in Germany. She is also an Author where she compiled and co-authored the AWE Book Volume 1 She was born in Kenya and is a mother to two, living in Germany. Her aim is to connect African Women living in Europe and around the world through AWE platform irrespective of their geographical locations. Joy started AWE Networking website in 2008 and now has over 6000 signed and actively involved women networking among each other. Africa Women in Trade was created by the need for Africa Women in Europe to support Africa women and youth in business, to empower, share skills, form sustainable partnership, support market access, informing of funding and Investment opportunities following the AfCFTA Agreement .
She is a professional Event Organizer and together with her team, she has been able to move one step forward from networking online to face to face networking by organising successful events for the past 10 years. (Köln, Madrid, Rome, Paris, Berlin, London and Geneva). AWE Host the AWE Awards every second year to acknowledge the achievement of it’s members in different categories. Joy Zenz Compiled the first AWE Book, A collection of 11 co-authors, including herself, sharing true stories - a reflection of the strength and positivity of AWE Women. She is the chairlady of AWE Diaspora SACCO where she recently managed to mobilise Kenyan women in Europe to collectively mobilise their remittance money in a way they can develop the economy of Kenya.
Prior to raising her children, Ms Zenz has worked in administration offices in UK. She has a diploma in Institution Management. She has worked in Pharmaceutical Company in Basel Switzerland as an administrator, communication expert and event assistant. She is currently involved in bridging Africa and Europe by joining different ventures with African companies and European Investors. Through African Women in Trade, she is able to connect business women and offer platform to market their goods and Services. Joy believes in African women empowerment here in Europe. Through the AWE platform, African women have been able to connect and build a positive image of African Women in Europe. Through the Awards, women have reflected a true icon to the future generation.
She has the passion to encouraged women and African in the Diaspora especially in Europe to start investing in Africa. Through partnership and connecting investors in Europe and Africa to the right market and being the bridge. She believes diaspora are the ones to build the Africa continent.
