Best Accommodation and Wine Experience Package

New Cellar & Vineyard Tour Accommodation Package at Benguela Cove

Benguela Cove Lagoon Wine Estate at Hermanus, Western Province, offers a luxurious oceanside retreat for wine lovers and discerning travellers. Situated on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean, the estate has released a weekend accommodation package that provides a new experience of its award-winning vineyards and hospitality.

The Walker Bay wine farm recently won the Cellar Door Experience of the Year Award, as the country’s top wine tourism destination, and ten Medals of Excellence for its wines in the new Tim Atkin ‘South Africa Special Report’.

On day one of the two-night package, guests will be welcomed with a leisurely lunch at the Moody Lagoon Restaurant before checking in to their luxury villa, complete with en-suite bedrooms, private pools, log fires and WiFi, and inverters to ensure constant power supply. Following some relaxation time, guests can indulge in a gourmet wine tasting at the Oyster & Seafood Bar while savouring the estate's breathtaking views.

The second day starts with an informative tour of Benguela Cove's state-of-the-art wine cellar led by an expert sommelier. This is no ordinary cellar; it's a 400-ton winery featuring crystal chandeliers, advanced technology, and a blend of traditional and modern fermentation vessels. Guests will glean insights into the art of winemaking and discover the journey each grape cultivar undertakes to become the award-winning Benguela Cove wine.

After the cellar tour, visitors can explore the estate's sculpture park and art gallery before tucking into a three-course A La Carte lunch at the Moody Lagoon Restaurant. The day continues with a 4x4 wine-tasting tour across the vineyards, as well as a pontoon tour of the lagoon, giving guests a chance to soak up the fresh air and the natural beauty of the unique Cape Floral Kingdom.

The package concludes on day three, with guests departing Benguela Cove Lagoon Wine Estate carrying with them unforgettable memories of the remarkable estate.

The luxury villa weekend package, suitable for up to ten guests, includes two-night accommodation, a cellar tour, and a wine safari, excluding meals and optional excursions. Please contact the estate for details.

Benguela Cove's international success story began with Penny Streeter OBE's acquisition of the estate in 2013, transforming a struggling wine farm into an award-winning wine producer and hospitality venue. The estate's unique location and perfect viniculture conditions at the edge of the ocean produce some of the finest South African wines, using only grapes grown on the estate. After warm summer days, the vines are chilled at night by the Benguela Breeze blowing up from the Antarctic.

The Hermanus wine farm achieved the 5-star top award for three of its cool climate wines and a further 4.5 stars for ten others in Platter’s 2023 South Africa Wine Guide. This followed a string of recent successes for the estate, which include three double golds in the Veritas Wine Awards, a platinum award for its Chardonnay in the Michelangelo Wine and Spirits Competition, and best Semillon and best single vineyard wine accolades in the Novare SA Terroir Awards.

Apart from its winemaking excellence, the estate is a WWF Conservation Champion and part of the UNESCO-designated Kogelberg Biosphere nature reserve, providing a haven for rare wildlife.

The Streeter family’s Benguela Collection group includes, in the UK, 740-acre Leonardslee Lakes and Gardens and the Mannings Estate in West Sussex. It features a 204-acre Sussex Wine vineyard first planted in 2017, Grade I Listed woodland gardens, a Michelin Star restaurant with luxury accommodation. There are also two golf courses and a year-round programme of entertainment.
